Anyone familiar with athlon optics?
« on: July 26, 2018, 07:39:26 PM »
Just sold my backup viper hst, need to buy some new glass now. I was looking at the athlon midas line, specifically the new midas with a capped windage turret and center dot reticle. Seems to have about everything I want in a hunting scope.

I'm also looking at the new vortex strike eagle 3-18, I like it from my first observations, though it is a step down in quality to the vipers, they seem like they bridge the gap kich better then going from diamondback to viper.

Also kinda like the new nikon blacks...

To any decisions. Back to square 1, anyone give a review of the athlon midas?!

I don't have a ton of time behind any of the Athlon scopes but I did spend a couple days shooting with one. I think they're a decent option at their price point. I'd lean more towards the Nikons just because I feel like the Nikons are better optically. The Athlon has some different features though that may make it better for your uses.

I got the Athlon Ares 4-27 Mil scope and it seems to be a good value.  I ran it against my Leupold 7-42 VX6 and couldnt tell a difference optically at 500 yards with both on 27 power.  Turrets feel much better than Leupolds - i.e. precise clicks move easy but not too easy.  Haven't mounted it yet ended up going with the higher power Leupold.

I hunted with an athlon Midas for one season before I switched to my vx5. 4.5-27 power range is awesome to have but the exposed turrets spun too easily so they would move when I hiked. Plus I backpack hunt so it was a little on the heavy side for my liking.  :twocents:
