BEAR HELP PLEASE FOR THIS WEEKEND
« on: August 06, 2018, 01:32:40 PM »
HEY EVERYONE,
I HAVENT POSTED ON THIS SITE IN YEARS.
I HAVE BEEN LURKING ON AND OFF THOUGH.I HAD A SORT OF LAST MINUTE TRIP IDEA COME UP.
MY BOYS AND I WILL BE IN THE KLIKITAT RIVER AREA JUST SOUTH OF THE RESERVATION LAND. MOSTLY JUST A FATHER/SONS WEEKEND. BOTH ME AND MY 8 YEAR OLD SON HAVE BEAR TAGS FROM SPRING BEAR. I THOUGHT WE MIGHT AS WELL HIKE UP SOME OF THE HIGH SLOPES AND LOOK FOR BEARS IN THE EARLY MORNINGS AND EVENINGS. I HAVE NEVER ACTUALLY DONE ANY BIG GAME HUNTING, WE ARE BIRD HUNTERS. ANY ADVACE AS TO WHAT TYPE OF AREAS WE SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR, SHOULD WE BE CALLING? SITTING?, HIKING?

ANY ADVICE WOULD HELP.

WE ARE NOT EXPECTING TO GET ANYTHING REALLY. BUT WOULD HURT TO KNOW AT LEAST WHAT TO KEEP OUR EYES OPENED FOR.

THANKS!

Private timberlands over there are closed as of now due to fire danger. Gonna be hot over there, they'll be in the creeks and streams I would think. Likely not in the berry fields until it's cooler. I've seen bears there over the during work though so they're certainly around

If I know the area you are talking about spend some time glassing for them.  There are some good open areas and you might find them moving early. Or hike a bit to a good point sit and glass the area, move and repeat. Have seen bears out that way, getting close to them is another story.

Streams and creeks are also a good bet.

The only time I am in the area is usually much later in the year so not sure about berries that grow this time of year.
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.

Wherever the berries are ripe is where you will find bear. If the berries aren't ripe where you go, then move to where they are ripe!

berries! all you need to know.. it doesn't matter how hot it is as soon as hillsides shade and if there are berries bear will be out. find yourself a good vantage point and be patient glassing.
