How far from the subject should the camera be placed
« on: August 05, 2018, 08:17:02 PM »
Looking at the pics, it looks like the camera is set back about 50 feet from the item of interest (e.g. stump)?

Depends heavily on your spot and target creature.  For bears and cervids, 50' sounds like a lot to me.  I'm typically in the 10-40' range.

Also depends on the camera and at what range limits it has. For example flash for night pictures if too close may be a white out, but if too far may not be enough to see anything.

Just set it up in the backyard and walk by a few times at different distances, both day & night to see what range gives the best picture quality.

Mine seem to usually be 20 to 30 feet.

10-15 yards at least for me.

10 - 20 yards guarantees you get some capture as they walk through.  I often go with 10 - 20 feet but get a lot of rumps and tails.
