Peaches quality archery elk. Help wanted
« on: August 10, 2018, 07:42:42 PM »
I am 16 and this is my first year hunting with a bow. I am looking to hunt the little naches but am open to hunt tanuem to. I am not familiar with little naches and was wondering if anyone new where to focus most of my time. If anyone can help it would be appreciated wether it’s is just advice or during the hunt. Thanks in advance.

My best advice is get in the area. Drive the roads for a day. Then pick area's and do short  hour long hikes. Look for rubs from last year. Big area that holds a lot of elk.  I've been scouting once a week since middle of June and running trail cams to see what's lurking around. Put in the time and you will find elk. That said don't rule out the quality of the bull's in the taneum since it looks like it's nearly in your backyard.

When I went scouting I was founding a bunch of cows so I’m hoping the bulls will come to them and not the other way around.

Cows will stay on the feed, bulls will find the cows

:yeah: do you have a parental or guardian going with you aside from seeking assistance here? Just asking, wouldn't want something bad happening and someone being held liable?

I dont mind sharing info just dont want a situation arising even though it had good intentions.

Do you have an adult tagging along? You need people to help if things get crazy?

My dad has to work most of the hunt but will be trying to help other than that I’m on my own between packing out and shooting.

Just a quick heads up . . . Little Naches is not open for the early hunt in September unless you have a quality bull special permit for the area.  It is open for the late hunt, Nov. 21 - Dec. 8.

It can be a great area late if the elk are there! It just depends on the weather, hunting pressure, and when the elk have decided to migrate to their winter feeding areas (Oak Creek).  I would suggest driving through the area and check out some of the logging roads between crow creek campground and ravens roost.  You may not be able to drive all the way to ravens roost due to snow in the late hunt.

All I can say is hunting in September can be problematic if you get an animal on the ground and no help to pack it out. Try and line up some buddies to help pack if your successful.
