Small Game
« on: August 02, 2018, 12:55:52 PM »
What kind of arrows does everyone use for small game.  I want to start my kids out with the option to shoot some bunnies, but I don't want to spend the cash on carbon arrows that might only be shot once.  I imagine Aluminium is the wat to go.  Thoughts?

What are they shooting? how many pounds?
Aluminum are easily bent, so i wouldnt recommend them. for the guys shooting Traditional bows (no cams)  many have mad thier own collars, or purchased online to go over the carbon arrows, making them nearly indestructible. I dont have them but do some searching around fro ones like these.

there are certain sized aluminum arrow that can be cut doen and used. many guys cut them and inch long or so for th etip end and fairly short for the rear. it helps keep them from splitting when slapped around.

Thanks Special T.
The kids will be shooting and Infinite Edge Pro and an SB-1.  40lbs and less, for now.

I can't bring them to that shoot, but maybe some in the future!

My boys (9 and 11) are shooting a Diamond Infinite Edge (40 lbs) and a Bear Cruzer (50 lbs), and I've set them up with my old Beman ICS 500 arrows, which I had plenty of after I switched to 340's. Aluminum arrows bend way too easily, and the fiberglass arrows you can get cheap(ish) seem simultaneously dangerous and worthless. And I've just gotten to used to griping at them when they break or lose too many, and then go buy some more.

One thing - I've found that judo points are worthless for squirrels. We've shot at least three with judo points, including one from my Hoyt, and had 'em run off, sometimes with the arrow still sticking in 'em. Use a point that'll get all the way through. Might be different with rabbits, of course - they don't seem quite as tough.
