Public land spot to sight in my rifle?
« on: August 24, 2018, 11:17:35 PM »
I'm looking for a spot on public land where I can sight in my rifle out to about 250-300 yards.  I'm on the west side. Is there a known spot(s) on public land where people shoot around here?  I know there's some like that down in Oregon.  Or is it just a matter of hiking out in the backcountry and finding spot that's away from people to do my shooting?  I'd take it to the local range but I'm on swing shift at work, so I'm working when the range is open.

State land is closed right now to target shooting due to fire danger, so you'll have to go to the National Forest. I'm not real familiar with areas near you, but I think going east on highway 2 until you get into the National Forest might be your best bet.

All of King County is "no shooting," even on NF. You'd need to go east of Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 if you that is s the route you plan to take.

Not true.

WA DNR land in King County is closed to target shooting.

National Forest lands in King County are open to target shooting with the exception of some areas along the Middle and South Fork of the Snoqualmie. https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5299246.pdf

One summer I looked in the forest service north of sultan.  Found a gravel pit. Set up and about to shoot, here come the motorcycles.  Guess I should have expected that.  Found a clear cut.  Set my target on a huge log that was laying down.  Fired a couple of rounds, than noticed a couple of people tearing down a tent beyond my target at about ten o'clock position.  Gave up then, too close.  If you are member you could go to Kenmore gun range, maybe they still have the member range with the 300 yard target range.  Renton Fish and wildlife has a two hundred yard range.  I worked swing for awhile and went on the weekends early in morning.
