Antelope Region 7 Opinions
« on: August 16, 2018, 09:04:40 AM »
I drew an Antelope B tag for Region 7 fall of 2016 and shot one on the first day opening weekend. I saw a fair amount of other hunters but got it done.

This year I drew a regular Antelope tag (either sex) for Region 7. The season is October 6th to November 11th. I am thinking of making a trip to Montana in November instead this year.

Does anybody have experience hunting Antelope at the end of the season in this region or is this a terrible idea as hunters will already have shot a lot and spooked them making for poor antelope hunting?

That one day I shot my antelope in 2016 is the only time I've hunted in Montana

Thanks!

they often shed by the first part of November so that is something to consider.

I've outfitted a lot of hunts in Region 7, we killed a lot of antelope in late season. The public land access will be more enjoyable to hunt later with fewer hunters. About Nov 6 to 8th you will start seeing a lot of bucks missing 1 or 2 sheaths. If you can hunt the last few days of October or first week of November you should be fine, the last few days of the antelope season it gets tougher due to bucks losing their sheaths. Good luck.

Thank you for the tips Dale, I used your maps for that hunt in 2016 if you remember. Hopefully I can make the very beginning of November work and get a still-horned buck down.

I had forgot your username on here. The population still isn't what it used to be, but it's slowly building, you should be fine in that first week.

I would hunt it earlier if it was my tag.  More bucks to look over, better weather, no rifle deer hunter pressure yet and no worries about bucks with missing sheaths.  I think it would be a much more enjoyable hunt early.

I avoided Montana region 7 antelope because of the winter they had, is the population still building or did it take the winter hit everybody was expecting? From the horror stories I was hearing guys were talking about over 50% loss this past winter?

Looking for places to hunt Antelope in MT area 7. I ordered the private land hunting booklet from MT. It has not arrived. Any Suggestions. So, I am running a little behind, just finished up Upper Smith Creek cow elk tag, I did not get one.
There are only so many sunrises left.

I took a lady for her first ever hunt (for anything) out for antelope in Wyoming Area 73 on October 31.  She got a nice buck, we took pics and as we started to drag him the sheaths popped off in our hands.  In central Wyoming I typically saw 1-sheath bucks starting in the first week of November, with most shed by mid November.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Due to schedule constraints I won’t be hunting area 7 this year until the first week of November. Hopefully I can find a good buck with both horns. I’m a little nervous about it.
