Washington State Gamebird Slam

Thought this would be fun to try and harvest every type of upland bird this fall. there would be 9 involved: Chukar, Hun, Ringneck, Blue, Spruce, Ruffed Grouse, Mt, Valley and Bobwhite quail.

Think the quail will be the hardest to achieve.. have not seen or know of locations with Mt Quail.... anyone want to throw me a bone on that?

E side of Olympic Peninsula. I've found them on the S end.

How sad that Mt. Quail are so hard to find. I remember a wonderful August/September in the late 80's in the coast range of OR archery elk hunting and shooting 74 of them in about three weeks while looking for elk.

Wow, this is a cool idea.  It made me think I have a check mark by all of them except Mnt Quail.  My parents have a house north of Lake Wenatchee and I see a group of them each summer over the last couple of years but you can't chase them on that side of the hill

yup me too.. but considering trying for all in one season, clearly my rub is finding mt quail early too!!!

I didn’t realize WA had any bobwhites! Last time I hunted them was over 30 yrs ago in Michigan.

Interesting! I’ve killed a bunch of valley quail all around there and never imagined there were bobwhites possible.

Birddogdad, 20 years or so ago when the pheasant release sites were out off the North Shore in Mason county (Efendahl pass, Tahuya Blacksmith before Used Car site) the Peninsula Bird Hunters used to have a pre-season meeting at the library in Belfair. Every year they invited the local game warden and the DNR representative for that area. After the meeting the "old timers" would pull the DNR guy aside and probe him for intel on Mt. quail and grouse on DNR land in the area. The DNR maybe a place to start.  I know we used to see them from time to time out there. The Mrs. and I saw two pair twice this spring off of Old Clifton road just before the power lines cross heading into Sunnyslope.
