I had a chat with a member of the Hunters Heritage council last night. The new director met with the leadership of the HHC and Washingtonians where an open, productive, dialogue on a variety of issues of importance. Kelly introduced himself, talked about how hunting and fishing influenced his career path, and how he is excited to be at the helm during a transition point. Kelly fielded questions comments and concerns ranging from predator control, WDFW relations with the regulated community took place, departmental priorities and enforcement. The director is clearly interested in improving relationships between the organized hunting community and WDFW.

I personally feel that this is the kind of signal that sportsmen have been hoping for from past directors. The new director has only been on the job for 3 weeks, and I'm sure that he will find out the extent of the challenges the department faces. As a Member of Silver Arrow Bowmen and supporter of the Washington State Archery Association I feel comforted at the Directors outreach. I hope Kelly continues his outreach to sportsmen to work through challenging issues.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

:yeah: I agree, he sounds good and at this point I'm cautiously optimistic, he also had a good interview with John Kruse on the Northwestern Outdoors radio show. But after the last "letdown" director I'm not going to get too excited until we see Susewind's actions. At this point he does sound positive....

I'll post a link to the interview when it becomes available.

That is good to hear.  Cautiously optimistic at this point.
