did you have to wear blaze orange in these 2 elk areas last year?During M/H Hunting season?
uh... yes, for the past three seasons that I can recall and maybe four.
I guess I should say in the 3911 I did. I didn’t hunt the 3912. I have a cabin and 500 acres in the 3911 area and another 1,000 that borders it so I am pretty familiar with that area. So yes hunter orange was required in the 3911 from basically August 1st until December 15th no matter what you were hunting.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

No offense sir but i said wear orange during M/H season unless i'm wrong you never had to wear orange until now during any season except general deer and elk modern firearm.if i'm wrong please correct that.
Maybe I’m missing what you mean by M/H season. I was assuming you meant during the master hunter season Aug 1- Dec 15th. That season was closed during modern fire arm elk.

I will say that I wasn’t a master hunter the first year it was in the books. The way I read the rule then was you had to wear it if you were a MH in that area. I ran into a MH when I was archery hunting and he informed me it applied to me as well. Oops.

A little off topic but a big rule change for these MH areas this year is as a MH you can only hunt with the weapon the your general tag is good for. It used to be that you could get an archery elk tag but hunt all season in the MH area with a rifle or muzzy if you wanted. This year if you have an archery tag you can only use archery equipment in the MH area.

Personally I find this rule idiotic. You can hunt bears without blaze orange UNLESS there is a M/H season? Every other non master hunter unit its safe to hunt deer and elk with orange during bear season. I bet there are a lot more bear hunters than master hunters. Plus master hunters are held to a higher standard. I feel safer about them making sure of their target.

You can hunt bears without blaze orange UNLESS there is a M/H season in those places open to the taking of deer or elk during a modern firearm season.

Are they very many places to hunt bears that are affected by this? I would think this relates to elk areas 3911 and 3912 primarily.

First question....the master hunter deer hunt permits 8/1-3/31 of the following year..."Designated areas in Region ___ "

How do we determine what designated areas are open to make sure we are legal in our blaze orange requirements?

I wouldn't consider permit hunts as applicable to this WAC; only general seasons.

:yeah:
I actually drew one of these permits this year.  My buddy had one last year and never got called.  He lost all his points.  This year they changed that rule also and if you don't get called you get your points back.  If I get called I will see if I am required to wear hunter orange on this hunt.  My guess is only if I am inside of the 3911 or 3912 areas.  I would also assume odds are very high that if I get a call I will be inside of one of these two areas.

I would think so but being escorted by a hunt coordinator I am just not sure how it all works.  I have seen guys doing this type of hunt before with a hunt coordinator, I just can't remember if they were in orange or not.  I want to say they were because they were in the 3911 area but at that point the two elk were down and tagged.

I hope I get called just to see what all the rules end up being.

My point was that they trust us, any joe blow with a bear tag enough to hunt bears without blaze orange. But they don't trust master hunters who are supposed to be more trustworthy. Doesn't make sense.
