Alaska DIY caribou hunt
« on: August 31, 2018, 01:10:39 AM »
Just got back from another great DIY hunt in Alaska. This time I brought my son for his first out of state hunt. We had a great hunt and were into caribou the whole time. My son, me and my friend all killed nice mature bulls. My sons bull was quite a bit bigger than mine which is awesome! This trip was a fly in drop camp. The other two trips I’ve done up there were for moose but I think I’m definitely going to do a caribou hunt again.

Looks like a great hunt building huge memories. My son doesn't hunt, so I can only experience this vicariously. Congratulations.

Awesome!

Do you have any terrain/landscape photos. Looks like a beautiful area.

It’s addicting. This was my third hunt up there and I already have the next two hunts up there scheduled. Looking forward to moose next year!

Looks like you had a great hunt.  Terrain looks similar to where I took my son caribou hunting 2 years ago.  Congrats on a couple of great bulls.

It was some cool country for sure. My one complaint with the area was there was nothing to burn. We were camped at tree line and finding even a handful of twigs took a lot of looking around. The weather wasn't too cold so we didn't really need a fire, which a good thing because with my fire making skills I needed a little more wood. There was a couple nice creeks within a few hundred yards of camp, we were blocked from the wind and had a great view of the valley right from our tent, and caribou were funneled right into us because of terrain,  so all in all it was a great spot.

The blurred out faces I did because I don't want my sons face on the internet, my buddy probably doesn't want his face either and I figured since I blurred theirs I may as well do mine too  :chuckle: a bunch of you guys have seen my mug anyway so you aren't missing much!
