Internet or any army surplus store.

Bigger question.....why MRE's???  I guess if you are starving they may taste good.  Mountain house is so much better.

Interesting perspective...MREs are so bad that they make Mountain House taste good.   :chuckle:

I got a case from my nephew who is in the Marines currently, they were deliciuos. He was doing cold weather training at the time so not sure if I got different kits but I could hardly finish everything in one.

Sometimes they're just too scrawny. Heaters put off a nice thermal image  :dunno:, I figured it was more of a you don't have time to heat. Is MH that much better tasting? I think MREs might be better for not carrying a stove or a container to heat water in and extra water. The MRE heater uses very little in comparison to the MH I saw cooked on youtube (it was chili mac also a good MRE).

Don't know about eating them cold or getting shot for heating them, but I prefer to buy individual entrees.

Amazon has them.  I do like some of the newer MREs,  however I actually love some of the Mountain House meals.  Often times weight is a concern of mine so I rarely carry MREs when hiking in.

Biggest problem I've seen with MRE's is the size and the weight. This may not matter too much on a day hunt or a 1 night'er, but if you're packing for bigger trips, they're too big and too heavy. Pound for pound you can do a lot better calorie and protein wise with other stuff. There's more to it than just Mountain Houses.

He was probably a Vietnam veteran, and was thinking of MCIs (also called C-rats) they burned trioxane tablets to warm them. Small balls of C-4 plastic explosive were often used as well. In a pinch, the C-rat peanut butter could also be used, it burned like Sterno, LOL

MREs use a chemical reaction to water in the box to heat them
