Salmon B tags are sold out. For elk, you'll be limited to areas with quota still available. Start on the fish and game site looking at non resident tag availability. That will narrow down available areas dramatically for you.

This is assuming you're talking about rifle season, not archery.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

There are some cool hunts from a boat on Dworshack Res. Bonus big smallmouth fishing.

Same boat.

Had a buddy pull out of our trip. Wasn't liking the idea of going solo, but found someone else to go.

Thinking of spending a week - 10 days in the pioneer zone (mainly focusing on unit 49). Any advice or starting spots appreciated.

Plan on staying in my wall tent and getting after it.

There's good hunting throughout most of Idaho if you find the sweet spots. You can use the Idaho hunt planner to locate a unit with good elk harvest, check the regs, make sure the unit is open for general season elk hunting, and then go there and find the elk. It's actually very easy to find elk in a new area, cover lots of mountain roads, watch game trails until you locate good amounts of elk tracks, and then get into the woods and hunt that area. There are 4 things important to elk, food, water, the rut, safety from predators/hunters. If you figure out where they are eating, drinking, and hiding, you should have very good odds even if they aren't calling!  :twocents:

I know who she is, but don't know her personally.

I went to unit 50 for 4 days and didn’t hear or see a single thing. Ran into a cowboy who say a pack of wolves came in and shut everything down. He was there trapping them for the state.

State guy or Federal? I know the federal guy for that area and he gets after them big time.
