A week in Selway Zone 15th-22nd montana road - didn't see an animal.  Did see one on game cam at midnight.  Talked to half-dozen camps including several backpack hunters.  No one saw an animal.

I also spent 8 days in the Selway. Did not see a single elk!  Rode 16 miles on horseback one day. Plus a lot of walking) and did not see any. Unimaginable.

Want to know the secret to Idaho? Get off the roads and hike! Hike at least three ridgelines back. You'll find game. That's it.
