Dog food
« on: September 07, 2018, 03:55:04 PM »
What's everyone like to feed their dogs when they are hunting them hard?  How about in the offseason?  Same food, just less or do you switch?  Thanks!

Hunting hard I feed Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete with AniMed CoMega Supreme. If they are losing weight they get raw meat as well.
In the off season if they get chunky ill go to Kirkland Signature Healthy Weight Formula, at a reduced amount

Thanks, I was feeding Black Gold Performance but had trouble getting it from Chewys, so I switched to Taste of the Wild.

We use the billjac or eukanuba. Keep the same food all year just adjust volume during hard activity days.

I would use what they like, vary amounts with activity and supplement with flax seed oil for added energy and essential fatty acids plus a B vitamin complex when really working them.  A tiny amount of the fat and vitamins goes a long way.

I am a huge fan of Taste of the Wild. I run a string of 13 dogs during the hunting season. From early season Sharpies at 85 degrees to late season Roosters at negative 25 the dogs thrive on it.  I have been feeding it for the past 8 years never an issue with it.

Personally, I buy the cheapest stuff I can buy until hunting season starts. Then I shoot the dogs.. My dogs are coyotes :chuckle:

Taste of the Wild is where it's at. I have a 70 lb golden that is an absolute brick *censored*house, if you shaved him he honestly would probably look like a pitbull LOL

When he's really busting his ass hiking or during hunting season, I'll throw a can of sardines on top of his food and give him some boiled chicken.

All kinds of gains, it's sad that more guys don't take their dogs nutrition seriously. It has a massive effect on their performance and lifespan.

Another vote for Taste of the Wild here. Switched from Pro-plan a year and a half ago and haven't looked back. The dogs do well on it and they like it too.

Dr. Tim momentum, straight up 4 months a year, mixed 2/1 with diamond chicken and rice in the off season.
Step once, look twice...
