My only sheep hunt was guided back in the Alaska Range back in 07.  I have no shame being guided on that hunt.  Even if it wasn’t a requirement to have a guide, I wouldn’t have gone the self guided route on a remote hunt like that.  Best investment I ever spent.

Beautiful ram. Lamb tips and everything.

How old?

Thanks X.  F/G aged him at 9.

Big fan of Randy's.  I can't imagine he got much/any actual criticism, but I think part of why we all like him so much is his commitment to his ethics.  I get it that it was a hard choice for him (at first).

Personally I agree he would have been crazy not to do it.  Also, that guide is going to be busy now...  I mean GEEZ can you imagine a better kick off to your guide business than to have Newberg and SoloHunter join you?
"master" hunter - still a noob.

I just listened to Randy's podcast about this hunt... it was a really epic adventure. I'll have to check out the Youtube videos.

I'm bummed that I didn't do more sheep hunting when I lived in Alaska. It took a while to get into backpack hunting on "easy" caribou and learn my stuff before I felt confident going on a solo sheep hunt. I got to do it once, without killing a sheep, and a year later I'm one of those dang nonresidents who would need a guide. I wish there were more registered guides who offered something like a self-guided hunt (with them going along as partner/packer) for something like 1/3 the ridiculous price of full guided hunts. I guess there are just enough people willing to pay for the deluxe experience that there's no room for guides offering something like a DIY for less money. It's great that Randy got that opportunity, though, and he would have been crazy not to do it.
