How Not To Hunt Coyote

I am sure you already know this but I am going to share it only because I deserve to be ridiculed. I decided  to start hunting coyote High-Tech  so I purchased some electronics, caller, Mo-Jo and a GoPro to capture the kill for Youtube.

To make a long story short....I went hunting yesterday off of FS70. I was in full camouflage, using a shotgun with buck shot. Bow hunters were out so I did the 35 yard thing so I wouldn't hurt anyone with a stray bullet from my AR.

I called for about an hour and nothing was interested except crows. I gave it up and headed home. Once home I played with my new GoPro for a bit. I noticed that when recording a red light would blink. Well, I pictured myself sitting behind that log decked out in full camo with Velcro holding my GoPro on the bill of my camo hat with that stupid red light blinking.   

Moral of my story is "STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES" Forest Gump

How not to hunt bears by H20hunter.

Last season was sitting on a spot I called the hub. 3 trails coming in at the end of an overgrown logging spur. All set up in my mini pop up, gun on the sticks ready to rock. Not to ling, sticks breaking like something with wide paws walking. Coming in. Game on. Gun is up, safety on, finger indexed.  Out walks the bear. 35 yards. Bear stops, not a big bear, but a bear. Breathe,  safety off, finger slides past the trigger guard. Next exhale brings the x to the spot. Dead on broadside. Bear takes a step, gone. Ginish my exhale,  finger off, safety back on. No more action, back to the truck, drop the floor plate and palm four rounds. Moral of the story is you at least gotta chamber a round before your think of taking the shot. That is not how to hunt bears.

Only thing worse would have been a bear charge while you trying to figure out how he got on top of you so fast.

Psh....this was not a charging type boo boo.....this was a barely past kicked aside by momma 100 pounder. I still would've popped it.....or at least given it the ol "click". I still smile thinking about that hunt. Not having to hear the snap on an empty trigger makes it a fond memory.  We learn more from our  unsuccessful hunts sometimes eh.

I use black electric tape to cover that blinker. Taped it once and never took off.

There are simpler video cameras than a GoPro. I had a heck of a time with mine. I sold it when I moved.

I have a VEHO MUVI that is  a heck of alot better to use and is the size of your thumb. My LEO friend uses it for his job. Pretty slick.

The GoPro is not user friendly. I bought the new Sessions 5 which is the size of an ice cube. It takes great video as long as it is set up right, but difficult to set up.

I thought about that after I realized what it was doing but of course that was was when I got home and not when I was in the field. Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

    I was out looking for cougar tracks. While driving along a highway, I saw a massive yote sitting by the side of the road. As I passed I saw him slip into some reprod. The ground was snowy and 300 yards from where he went in was a large patch of timber. across the highway from where the timber began was a logging road with a gate to park at. I quickly grabbed my gear and crossed the highway and snuck into the timber. I sat my e-caller about 20 yards away and hunkered down watching the reprod line. 12 minutes into calling and I see something zip by in my peripheral. To my left was a patch of alders and some snowy ground so I could see anything that comes in. So I turn my gun that direction and started watching. After a couple minutes I think maybe I just saw a bird fly by. A couple more minutes goes by and here comes a coyote but not the monster that I saw on the highway. He walks to my right and I cant swing the gun over without spooking him, so I wait. He walks right up to me. Literally 7 or 8 feet away. He leans his head down to get a closer look at me. He squints and makes eye contact with me through the hole in my face mask. His eyes get big and he turns around to run. I swing the rifle over and click off the safety and pull the trigger all in one motion. (slow motion in my head) The gun goes "CLICK!". "LOAD THE !@#$%^& GUN YOU SOB!"     I was so focused on getting over there and setting up, I totally forgot to chamber a round. Needless to say I have to check my gun atleast twice when I leave the truck now. SO I switch to coyote pup distress knowing the big guy is probably still around. after about 2 minutes I see him slipping through the timber, but never gave a clear shot. Total fail, but I'm glad it was just a coyote and not a cougar or bobcat I had to learn that lesson from.
