Hog Hunting
« on: March 18, 2009, 07:46:37 AM »
I was talking to a guy at work that is going Hog hunting in two weeks over on the pennisula in some apple orchard. Does anyone know anything about this apple orchard?  :dunno: what the regs are for hunting hogs in WA? He says there are no regs, limits, seasons, license, tags or anything like that. I think it would be kinda fun to go and do, but I don't want to do something F'ed up.

Give the game department a call. I believe a few years ago it was rumored there were wild pigs out the Wynoochee Valley, I remember having to have a valid license but no tag or limit.

Yup. IF...and I mean IF you happen to locate a band of feral hogs you do need a valid hunting license but there are no established seasons or tags.

I'd be interested in hearing how the hunt goes. I've heard the rumors before too and saw some pics of a couple that were taken years ago but I am not aware of any "active" areas.

I have heard the same rumors about hogs.  I read an article from around 02 that talked about them.  If someone has a line on them and wants some help getting some let me know, I live on the west side and like most of you would love to get a hog.

:beatdeadhorse:  dont know how many times ive heard this same question on hunting sites, i even bought into it the first time i heard it. you'll never find feral hogs on the peninsula. a few got out like 12 years ago theres no wild population out there. if there was then no you dont need a tag, kill all the imaginary pigs you like  :P

I too have heard of hogs on the peninsula, but they probaly aren't "wild," but probaly some ***hole released some hogs off their farm thinking they would be fun to shoot, or they just escaped.  If there are any, there aren't much.

I am from Southern Cal and am a hog hunting fanatic.  My daughter and I have taken our share.  I am now in the Auburn area and if there are any hogs around here, and if anybody needs somebody to go looking for them with, I would love to go.  Just where is this peninsula mentioned earlier?  I will tyry to post a few pics...

btlsoom - It is the Olympic Peninsula. Most sightings and rumors stem from they Wynoochee area up to Forks. Sightings are very rare and rumors are rampant. The only one I saw was about as tall as a 200lb black bear. It looked like a wild hog in shape, but the color was pale or more consistant with a farm pig. It was in an area between a National Park and an Indian Reservation so there are plenty of places they could be that no one would find them. But I can tell you that there are not many and it would be a waste of time to look for them.

Yea, I sure WISH we had a huntable population around here. I hunted them a bit while stationed in California and had a blast. It was a really fun way to get out and enjoy the hills until deer season kicked off.

Here are a couple pics of two pigs I harvested while down there.
