Dove hunting sunflower field
« on: September 12, 2018, 09:53:44 PM »
Since the regs are clear as mud on the subject, what is your guy’s take on hunting over a cut sunflower field? Thought the regs simply used to say “10 day waiting period” after harvest. Now the baiting section is huge in the regs! Love the “case by case” statement in there also. This is the statement that really makes me wonder about a potential spot
• Croplands where a crop has been harvested and the removed grain is redistributed or “added back” onto the area where grown.

I don’t know much about growing sunflowers but for some reason they knocked down half of the sunflowers several weeks ago apparently and just left them lay, seeds and all, and then came through a week and a half ago or so and actually harvested the remaining. Tons of seeds all over the ground and the number of birds in the area caught my eye because of the remaining seeds. Maybe I’m thinking too hard about it but don’t want to be “that guy” and hunt it when I legally can’t. Thinking it would be a fantastic shoot but again, don’t want me I be “that guy”.

Regs are little up for debate, I'd call the game department or warden in the area to get a conclusive answer.  Taking out the male? rows is standard practice before harvest in seed crops for sunflowers I believe and harvesting the female.
