2018 Wy general bull
« on: September 14, 2018, 07:28:52 PM »
It’s surprisingly hard to open up the gun safe, take a quick inventory and reach past all the fine tuned long range rifles to the far back corner and grab the old Winchester 94 chambered in .44 Mag. Knowing good and well this decision just significantly decreased my odds of taking an elk in a otc unit that already has a very low success rate. I’m not sure if it’s me just getting older and finding my passion lies more with in the pursuit over the harvest of the hunt or if I’m just finally able to see through the veil of skewed perception social media has casted over the hunting community. Whatever my reasoning I’m glad I stayed persistent with the the old lever gun. It’s been a life long goal to take an elk with one of my old 94s. I called this bull off of private and into 56 yards. The HSM 305s did great 2 pass through sand recovered the quarter away shot under the offside shoulder

Awesome and done without an ultra super duper magnum rifle mounted with a Mount Palomar scope shot at distances beyond the curvature of the earth.

 very nice love that gun. I still once in a while grab for the 30/30 lever action, or my dads 30/40 Krag.
"When my bow falls, so shall the world. When me heart ceases to pump blood to my body, it will all come crashing down. As a hunter, we are bound by duty, nay, bound by our very soul to this world. When a hunter dies we feel it, we sense it, and the world trembles with sorrow. When I die, so shall the world, from the shock of loosing such a great part of ones soul." Ezekiel, Okeanos Hunter

Fantastic bull and terrific story.

I have to admit, I don't think I could grab a 44 for elk.    I just wouldn't be confident that I'd get in range.
I'd be afraid that dude would be staring at me for a 1/2 hour form 150 yards.

Way to get it done.

That’s cool man
