Deep fried trout
« on: September 16, 2018, 01:53:20 PM »
Thought I’d try something new and deep fry some trout. Prepped it just like I would pan frying, flour, salt pepper, and garlic.  It was OK but not great. A little disappointed  thought it would be much better than that.   I know pan frying is king. Especially with cast-iron.  ;)

How big were the trout?

Maybe smaller ones would be good.

Beer battered then fried is a great way. The basic flour doesn't deep fry so good.

My experience has been if they are hatchery trout there is no saving them aside from maybe smoking. Wild caught can be good but unless they are of size be careful not to over fry and dry them out. Example on a 12” trout maybe 1minute a side. My  :twocents:

if you are trying to make fish and chips you gotta use something other than flour. Beer batter or a egg wash flour and egg than dredge in cracker crumb or something similar

Honestly guys I didn’t even think about beer battering the trout. I will give that a try. Thanks for the idea. I’m sitting here giggling thinking  why didn’t I try that. Oh the simple things lol

Beer-battered salmon is really good too, but not commonly cooked that way.

Fried salmon is really good.  Pan fried or deep fried are both delicious.  Wild trout is good too but I've never deep fried it.  Pan fried can be really good.

For planted trout, the best way I've found is to stick them in a crab pot and turn them into crab or put them on a hook and feed them to a halibut.  Both methods turn out great.

Yep!

Try egg and Kellogs Cornflake crumbs. This is my family go to breading.  I also like Panko and instant mashed potatoes.  Sometimes I will do combinations of the above.

:yeah:  My wife started doing deep fried fish with corn flakes about a year ago, really tastes great.
