Ryan Lake Rd from Randle
« on: September 19, 2018, 04:49:18 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knows if you can get from Randle to Ryan Lake Rd and make your way to Winston unit 520? I have hunted unit 520 for 13 years and started looking at going in from there and have been told that Ryan Lake Rd is washed out. I’m hoping to get over there and check it out before elk season starts but with living on the east side and having the busy season coming on it mayb be a long difficult to make it before season opens and may have to spend part of season trying to get in there.

The 26 road is closed for construction.   Saw it yesterday.  I don’t know any details but I think the USFS posts closures on their website.

It's been blown out for 2 or so years (Forest road 26) out of Randle at mile 8 ish.  Not sure if they are working on it yet.  Hopefully soon.

You can come from the other side, but it is a long way around.

Take the 25 road to the 99, then to the 26. Then north on 26 to Ryan Lake. It's closed north of there. I was just up there a couple weeks ago.

Not recommended.  You can do the goat mnt to deadman and vanson lake hike.  22miles for us round trip and steep to start.  Not best for elk but few are there.  Behind Ryan better but closed to permit only.  Green towards weyco is around 8 miles, did that too.  All old forest and very disappointing when the guys from weyco Margeret unit meet ya off the weyco rds 1/2 mile in for them.  Always a luck factor a big one might stroll through as one of guys saw this on rd but not great odds and pretty rough hiking to any good areas up top...Also the horse campers have large advantage..
MAGA!  Again..
