I guess she doesn't like to share
« on: October 08, 2018, 05:06:25 PM »
It cracks me up how nasty deer can be with one another. This doe gave her own fawn a swat. You look at deer and they seem so placid but they can be downright nasty.

cool pic...here's my story---opening weekend of archery that sunday first light pulled up into a clearcut.  saw a doe feeding at 111 yards down the hill a little left of us.  my son's brother in law said he was going to sneak down and shoot her so 3 of us stood on the landing watching.  he eventually got within 45 yards and launched a couple arrows without hitting her.  she turned a little bit and his third shot grazed her flank and made a cut on her haunch about 4" long just cutting the skin.  she wheeled around and just stood there every once in a while turning her head to lick the wound but it wasn't bleeding...she kinda trotted off and kept feeding.  about that time another doe stood up about 85 yards directly below us and started walking towards the doe he grazed that was still feeding.  once they got about 30 yards from each other the doe that was grazed dropped her ears and charged the second doe..she reared up on her back legs and started kicking the second doe until it ran off.  it didn't go far and they were like prize fighters circling each other in the ring.  the first doe would drop her ears and charge the second one kicking it with her front legs when she got close.  Meanwhile the brother in law closed the distance on the two and shot his quiver out of arrows missing every shot.  We were back at my house at 7:50 with an empty quiver and no meat hanging...as he was walking back up the hill to the landing that first doe kept running the second around the clearcut and kicking it with her front legs whenever she was close enough

And that story is a perfect example of why we hunt. We see things that non hunters will never see in a lifetime.  That's actually an awesome story. Tell the BIL to practice a little bit.  :IBCOOL:

yeah we figured out he was dropping his bow hand when he shot trying to see the arrow fly...finally talked him into holding his bow/pin up until the arrow hit and the next weekend he connected at 30 yards...kinda cool talking them through the mistakes we have made to shoot his second ever bow kill,,,thats my idea of "paying it forward"

I've yet to meet a hunter that has not made a bad shot or lost an animal...next time you decide to walk on water let me know and we can record it until then shut your yap cuz you're just showing your ignorance

:yeah:
After 2 or 3,hell even 4  come on ! I dont care what weapon type . if the animal is obviously unharmed backout and figure out WTH you or your equipment is doing wrong .

And yes everyone will make a bad shot and lose an animal, this is a scenario that will speed that up.
And why post it on the internet ...?

Sorry to the OP for derailing .

45 yards seams like a long shot with a bow,
The tree huggers could take this story a long way.
