What to do?????
« on: March 18, 2009, 04:51:04 PM »
This is almost more for entertainment purposes than anyhting.  Good ole conversation on forum.  I inherited a few things from a gal that I work with that is totally an anti-gunner.  Her husband (also one) inherited a bunch of stuff from his dad.  She sold most of the guns I think then had all this stuff.  Some bullets (Factory loads) some knives, some gun cleaning supplies, couple bottles of Hoppes and some patches and a few rods etc.  Now it gets interesting.  One box held a derringer .45 cal blackpowder pistol, in brand new condition.  Double barrel.  Int he box was a ramrod, a new can of powder, a box of .45 roundballs, and a thing full of primers........and  this is where the question comes in.  A FULL  coffeecan Full of powder.  UNLABELLED  LOL.   I'm not exactly sure how many pounds that is.  LOL   so my question to you is what to do with a can full of gunpowder that you don't have a clue what is.  If this is a federal offense, let me know. LOL

pour it out, light a match to it and let it burn. what are you thinking the federal offense is? Black powder is not illegal. find an anthill, pour a circle around it..light a match and yell Die, you little suckers... :chuckle: :chuckle:

That is an entertaining question.

I don't believe it is legal, but to dispose of some old powder - we dug an open hole and poored it into the hole - made a very long fuse with remaining powder - just like they do in the movies and then added a long paper fuse & lit and watched the flash style poof.  It doesn't explode, because it is not contained.  It flashes, much like a black powder camera flash from old westerns, but a little higher energy.

I bet that derringer is worth some coin to some collectors, but I am not a collector, so not sure.  It just sounds expensive.

Thats the fun thing...not even sure its blackpowder.  The gun is probably a reproduction, but cool nonetheless.  If I ever decide to costume up.....

To dispose of it without lighting it is to soak it with water and flush it, I don't know how true it is but that should render it useless and non flameable. Maybe it is just really old coffee, brew up a batch and see what your farts do !!! LOL  :chuckle:

Sprinkle it on your yard or in you garden. I've heard it is great fertilizer.

I wouldn't do anything with it that involves a match or a lighter... I have a buddy who spent two weeks in the burn unit because of stupid schitt like that. Black powder is no joke... especially when you don't know how old it is.

Put it on your lawn, or take it to the fire department, or whatever... but don't fool around with it... you're smarter than that. Besides... if you go blowing yourself up, who's going to post all the cool pics... and do schitt like shoot big bucks with a longbow durring modern rifle season?

I'm sure there's a hundred guys on here who've messed around with BP and still have all their fingers (and eyebrows)... but that don't make it sensable.

Strike Fast...
No Mercy, SIR!
