"Old Warrior Project"
« on: September 23, 2018, 09:56:34 AM »
Im going to start a thread here for all of those old warriors out there that are past their prime.   The rarest animal to me in this state is just that, the Old recessed mossback, who has beaten the odds and has survived what nature can throw at them, wolves, man, the hiway...   If you have an obvious Old timer, post em up.

Cool idea, maybe a little story about the deer as well not giving up the location obviously.😉

Great thread

This was one of the heaviest bodies deer we have taken, head full of scares, ears split. He was running with 8 does in an area a much...much larger antlered deer was taken that had no does. It was his time to go.
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!

Love it. What an old wise deer. You can see in his face that he doesn't give 2 you know whats about you, you're just a young whipper snapper.

A friend killed a real old buck in the Chewuch a few years ago on the quality hunt. Tons of mass, shorter points, etc.. typical big old buck beginning regression. What always impresses me is the size of that buck's skull whenever I see the euro. Just massive. This 2 pt's head/face look very much the same, I'm sure he was built like a brick house.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

I'll have to get a pic of the skull my brother has. We were hunting up North by Blueslide one year way back in a canyon with a beaver pond and he shot an old whitetail buck that must have weighed 300# and it had a basic 4-5 point on one side and a small crown of about 3-4 points on the other but the bases we're the same. We cleaned the skull and found that he was missing several teeth on the one side and the game Dept said he was 9-10 yrs old. We had them check his teeth out of curiosity. I'll get pics of it for ya guys! He had an old moose nose and grey face. My brother said he wouldn't have shot him if he had gotten a better look at his face cuz he was so old. He could just see that the one side had at least 4-5 points and pulled the trigger. These old bucks that survive that long sure do deserve warrior status don't they!

Not sure if this fits here, bit here is an old regressed Yukon moose I saw yesterday.  The widest part of the rack was 55-1/2", and that was his fronts.  Impressive mass. Hunter said it was by far the oldest bull he's killed, and he's a very accomplished hunter.
