Brook trout like that are really interesting.  They can only feed during the ice-free months, which are generally June to November (just 1/2 year).  The rest of the time they starve under the ice cap.  Thus, they develop huge heads (the heads keep growing, the body doesn't).  Some of the old timers have heads much bigger than their bodies.  Really interesting.

Remote mountain lakes are a lot of fun.

thanks everyone! It was lots of fun, first pic was at a beaver pond, bottom three were at a high mountain lake, and I can guarantee that it is now covered in ice.

I don't know. I've seen lots of videos of guys catching them through the ice.

Ive caught hundreds ice fishing, so not sure about that.   I do agree about some with their big ole heads.  I just figured too many fish to compete for food sources

Interesting...! Then there are some lakes that contain the exact opposite trout in that their body keeps growing and their head stops.....oh and they are a rainbow variety !!
