What should I expect from the BT rut?

Putting in 10 mile days in Western WA, calling, rattling - nothing. The place is a ghost town. I've covered huge amounts of distance in search of sign, and the forest feels abandoned. Is this normal? I expected...well, something. Anything.

Get up high ( snow line ) find alder benches and I think you’ll find some

Lots of nocturnal activity on my backyard cams.  Way, way later than during a normal year.  I like Jakeland's idea.
