Jersey Calves?
« on: September 26, 2018, 02:49:04 PM »
Not sure if this is the right section to post or not, but does anyone know of any farmers in Washington that are expecting some Jersey Calves? Looking to pick up at least two calves depending on price. Thank you.

I know a 4-H kid in Duvall that probably either will have some or will know of some. I'll ask around.

Cherry Valley Dairy in Duvall also has a bunch of jerseys. Not sure if they sell calves but last time I was there they had a bunch of them.

I thought that was some kind of paint but wasn’t sure why it’s there. She does have that wide eyed stare thing going though huh?

They’re at a pumpkin patch in carnation for the kids to pet and climb all over and will be for sale the day after Halloween.

Might be able to find you some in Tenino, a little closer to home. Are you looking for bottle babies or weened calves? I can give a few folks a call tomorrow. Got a few friends with large local dairy herds

You won't find heifers for $100. Be prepared to spend $500 or more for them. The bull calves can be had from $10 to $100, just depends on who you get them from. The red mark on the calf's face looks like dehorning past.
My wife and I use to raise bottle calves and had up to 30 at a time. Be prepared to lose them. They are very fragile and are high maintenance unless you have a nanny cow that will take them in.
I hunt therefore I am.

I might have a line on some in Tenino.  Just need to know if you want them registered or registrable, bottle babies or weened.  What is the oldest & youngest that you would want and would you be interested in Ayrshire, Ayrshire cross or only straight Jersey?

I'm not buying one, but am curious what a weened bull calf costs?  Or at least one ready to wean.  I don't want to have to bottle feed it.
