I've had pretty good luck with Lowa in the past but I definitely won't be buying any Lowa boots ever again after what happened to my wife's Lowas.

She hardly even worn them before. I  think I bought them for her last year and except for the very occasional use, they've mostly sat on her closet. She was wearing them last weekend when the sole desinigrated on one boot, then the other boot the same thing started to happen.

You must have been walking through an area that was just sprayed with roundup. When in doubt, blame roundup.

Even if it was sprayed 30 years ago....

So my boots wear out because of round up!  I thought it was just heavy use and poor care.

In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.

Karl stated  it the best find something that fits your feet. Then pick a boot that set up for your type of hunting. A little day day will not hold up in the steep side hill rocky country. I’ve run lowa for years usually getting about two years out of them before the soles are slick but they fit my feet and I love them .  Also remember the guy that weight 160 is going to get better wear than us 220 lbs guys lol. I also try to rotate boots just to get a little more longevity out of them.

I've tried every high end name brand out there.  Lowa,Crispi, Danner, Soloman, Meindl, and so on. None of them were right for me so I put brand aside and tried on boots you normally wouldn't even know about. I ended up getting Salewa gtx mtn trainers and they are absolutely awesome for my feet! Try on everything,  I mean everything you can and get what's best for you.

I've tried about 2 dozen boots the last few years looking for the perfect fit and finally found a winner for me in the Schnees Beartooth II. Incredible boot and customer service.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'll be trying on boots before I make a choice.

Out of the box comfortable were Irish Setters but both pairs I tried leaked after 1 hike. I like my Danners except the squeak is getting worse. I baby them though and only use them a couple weeks a year.

It’s a lifelong search. My long and skinny European shaped feet with boat keel heels are doing ok in zamberlans provides I use the factory insoles. Throw a aftermarket  footbed in there and my heel rides too high.

For higher mileage and not real wet conditions, I have had good luck increasing the boot a half size and increasing sock thickness in a hiker style boot. Most boots that are uninsulated offer a insulated version of similar variety. If very wet like the westside late season I wear straight up rubber boots, if cold and wet/snow I like the schnees pac style. But not as good over extended mileage as they are heavy.

Love my Irish Setters!!!  Will never buy another pair of Danners at any price!  They failed me too many times.

If you have used the whites with success, you might consider using their hunter boot and ordering the insulated.

I've had my Lowa Ranger GTXs for about 7 seasons. The walls are still stiff and supporting. They're extremely comfortable all day long. They're still waterproof as long as I treat them. The soles are wearing and the rand has started to separate. I called and spoke with a man who told me to register on their warranty page for repairs. I received a response that for $95, the would replace the outer, mid, and insoles, the rand, and would access the leather upper. If the upper needs replacing, they'll just send me a new pair of boots. It'll take 3 months because they send them back to Germany. Keep in mind that these are 7 year-old boots and the repairs they're talking about would easily cost $150-200, if they could be done locally at all. I'll basically have a new pair of Lowas for the $95 price tag. At my age, this will likely be the last pair of boots I need. If not, I will definitely buy another pair of Lowas.

By the way, I didn't have the beeswax to treat my boots in camp this year. So, I used one of the white tubes of bowstring wax. If you ever need to treat your boots and have nothing else to use, this worked incredibly well.

I haven't had them particularly long, but I've so far really been happy with my Kenetrek Mountain Guide boots. Glad I had them on for the really steep off-trail stuff this last week.

But take this with a grain of salt as it's my first pair of high-end boots. I wore some mid-eight Asolos past their prime and felt the Kenetrek was an extreme upgrade.
