Apache Reservation Elk Hunting
« on: October 08, 2018, 07:07:45 PM »
My wife and I just spent a week up there relaxing. Took a drive out of Show Low onto the Apache Nation Rez. There was a big sign that said:

                                                   DANGER
                                           TROPHY ELK HUNT
                                                IN PROGRSS
                                           NO PICTURE TAKING
                                             NO ELK CALLING
                                            NO VIDEO TAPING
                                                DO NOT STOP

I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

With some of those hunts running upwards of $20K that's understandable.

Couple pics from elk hunts on Indian rez in Arizona and New Mexico...$17K to $25K  You can do a search for Casey Brooks and see some beeeg bulls. He came up this way turkey hunting a few years ago and showed me these two.

I was born and raised in that area. Those are pretty much the rules 24/7/365. I remember that if we were driving through the rez and wanted to look at a herd of elk off the side of the road we would have to act like we were having vehicle issues. If you got caught watching a herd on the Rez you were screwed. They would accuse you of trying to come up with a plan to poach their elk. It seems like unless you have a tag or are a member of the rez your best bet is just to keep on driving. There is some absolute crazy *censored* that they do out there.

Maybe if you worked out a swap? You share with them some good moster muley spots and they let you photograph 1 of their monsters. :chuckle:
