How come nobody buys a chassis for their build ?

They’re alright for some applications but I don’t like them for my style of hunting. They’re heavier, have more edges to snag on brush, ring like a bell when a branch hits them and they’re COLD!!! :chuckle:

I’ve had XLR, Killer Innovations, PDC, MDT, KRG, J Allen and Mcree chassis and the only one left is the McRee on the 338 SnipeTac. I even worked with Jay.sharkbait to design a chassis for the CZ 527 and Savage actions.

One of my biggest complaints though is the cost. I know exactly how much it costs to manufacture one and the prices they sell for are obscene sometimes. Profit’s not a bad word, but some of these companies just over charge to gouge shooters who don’t know better.  :twocents:

So when I ordered my barrel from Benchmark I have them the twist, grooves, contour and length.  I later wondered if they needed to know my bullet preference.  So I shot them an email, and the nice lady who handles the office stuff said that they didnt need it.  Maybe I have been reading too much online stuff.  Do I need to make sure the smith has this info, or is it not a big deal?

I have a 24", #5 fluted for my 30-06. Go #5 or go home! Love me a stout barrel that's not that heavy.

Bench made the barrel is like 6 weeks, pretty fast turn. I was choosing between a bench or a lilja. Both barrels have identical specs, but bench is local, faster mfg time and saved money on shipping.

I had Freud install the barrel.  Fwiw Freud told me that bench barrels are really freaking straight, which doesn't affect accuracy, he just has observed that their barrels don't wobble on the lathe so to speak.

Man once you put aftermarket steel on one gun it is so tempting to replace all you barrels.

You just need to have a fast enough twist for the bullet you will be shooting.  Each bullet manufacture has a recommended twist.  Berger just changed there’s to a little slower.  Going with a fatter twist is better than slower.  The gun smith will chamber the round you wish with the amount of freebore you should need to get the bullet to the neck should junction.  If you going to shoot a 300 win mag and a 210 vld, you would be ok with a 212 eldx or 215 Berger etc

I've got a Killer Innovations and 2 MDT LSS Chassis. They're great for me, but a little expensive. I can't hunt anymore, except out of the truck because of my knees. So the long range is only what I use them for..
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
