How would one of you pheasant hunters like to bag one of these? Both of these birds are wandering around wild in the Wenas as we speak compliments of some storm activity while I was gone hunting. One is from Japan and costs anywhere from $200 to $400 dollars. The other is a specially breed melanistic variety. Some may actually find some of these out in the wild, but probably not as good as this one. HAPPY HUNTING!

I reckon they can cross with the ringnecks, eh? That might get interesting. Trophy pheasant hunting in the Wenas next year!

Hey Bone, I have driven through the wenas area, and past the lake a few times this year. Mostly going from Oak to LT. I have seen a ton of quail while driving, but I don't see anything public to hunt near wenas. Any spots you know of that a guy can bang some quail?

Bone, are those pets? Or do you release them? I always wanted to raise a few of the Chineese goldens (I think that is their name) you have some cool looking birds.

Wenas Quail. There is limited access to the LT, but there is a spot just this side of the lake, and about 3 miles this side of the lake that you can drive onto it. Beautiful country, but it does get shot at.

I don't want to put up any pens, I have seen how much work it is.
I'll leave that to you. My buddy in Wilson Creek raised birds for years. The goldens were downright mean. Those poor hens didn't have many feathers left on them after breeding season, even with a board to run beneath. They sure are beautful though.

Bone, how difficult would they be to raise in a more urban local? I always wanted to do this but to be honest I have not looked into the logistics much.

The Red and Yellow Goldens and Amherst work the best in small quarters. They don't have obnoxious noises, so don't attract attention from the neighbors. People house them in a 4x4 pens with limited success. Obviously the bigger the pens the better. I'll get pics of the Yellows and Amherst on here. The amherst can be a bit more nervous than the GOldens. I think the Yellow goldens are the kindest birds. I have some that follow me around like a pet dog outside, and they stay even.

Go to this link. Its the Golden pheasant page on my website. You can see their different pics. It would be easier than copying all the pics over.

Those are beautiful birds. Is the one with purple "eyes" a pheasant, too?
