Daughters 1st Deer....
« on: October 22, 2018, 10:14:07 AM »
First of all thanks to @Dawgfather1 for the access intell, plenty of good people out there willing to share info and ninjahunter for being a mule.

She was done in the first few hours of arriving, which is great but a little disappointing at the same time, kinda like sellers/buyers remorse maybe? We popped over a ridge at 330 pm and spotted a nice 5x5 WT and decided to go after him, 1058 yrds was the starting point. Teaching her about the wind direction, cover and concealment and the surprises ( does, coyotes) that pop up along the way was a fun time, priceless. So we are now 800yrds.....610yrds...545yrds...Time and yardage never seem to add up does it? 421yrds.....360yrds......."Do you feel comfortable taking the shot?" "No, to excited and shaking, wind blowing, Scared!"....250yrds....BAM!! Group of does that we missed jump up scoop him along and off into the sunset he goes. Time check 501 pm...."I say well lets get out of here and start hoofing it back to the truck" she looks at me and says "no I'm not done yet today, how about we go to the draw where we saw those other deer?" YES!! YES!!! YES!! Proud dad moment. So we head out in that direction, wind isn't doing us any favors then some does crest up out of the draw we drop down, damn prickly pears!! 530 pm I look to the right and whisper bucks..... She sets the bipod up trying to get comfortable, "Which one?" " Your hunt, your choice!" She says "The right one, how far?" "163yrds" "I can't stop shaking!" "Relax, breathe,  and remember 200yrd zero on your 6.5CM." " Ok" " Shoot when ever your ready." "OK" Seconds feel like minutes, minutes feel like hours.....BOOM!! " Missed chamber a round!" As she chambers the bucks are trotting at an angle away I give out a loud " Meeewwwww" they stop and look back....."Ready?" " Yes" I turn and look at her, tears streaming down her face....." You got this! Relax, breathe and Shoot when ready 189yrds.)" BOOM!! Buck Down! More tears! Hugs! High Fives! The hard part starts now I say................Luckily my buddy ended his hunt early and came down the hill to help pack, it was actually the easiest part!

Great write up and love the pics!
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Beautiful buck, congratulations!  My daughter shot her first buck this year as well.  It's a great feeling.
