A big buck, a shed and a story
«

In 1954 my dad found this shed while Deer hunting up a drainage in the North Fork of the Big Wood River in central Idaho. He hunted for this buck in 1955 and while he did shoot a big buck it was not this buck. Back in those days my dad never scouted as there was too much work to do on the farm. To makes ends meet, in the spring he guided fishing to the wealthy folks from Sun Valley, in the summer he farmed, in the fall he guided Deer and Elk hunting and in the winter he trapped. He hunted the same area in 1956 and was able to get on him and kill him on the 2nd day. Huge bodied Deer, 270 # of wrapped meet in the freezer
He scored 263 3/8 , has a 42" spread and is a 20x13. Game Department aged him at 11 1/2. When he killed him he was 16th in Boone and Crockett. No guaranties this was the same buck but I believe it is.
Really miss my dad as he was a great man and a better hunter, best hunter I have ever met and taught me to be the hunter I am today. His buck is on my wall now and is a true giant

How do you measure trying, you do, or you don’t.

These are the stories I like seeing. You have a piece of muley history in the pic, horns, and story that many of us dream of having. I'd put my money on that's his shed as well.

What a great way to remember your father. Thanks for sharing the story and the pics of that massive old buck.

That buck is truly impressive. That is what I consider a once in a lifetime buck
I have never seen a buck like this alive. Thanks for sharing a great story.
