Iv been letting my bird dog down! Help!!
« on: November 06, 2018, 02:14:04 PM »
Hey everyone, I need some guidance! I have not got out and done much bird hunting since i have moved into Washington. I came from hunting chuckar, quail and pheasant in the Sierra Nevadas and in the the mason valley in Nevada. I have taken my shorthair out and done some grouse, also a few planted bird trips to the clubs here but we would like to get back to our roots and chase wild bird!!!!
So my question is where! I have seen grant county and Yakima are great places and I see there are some “ feel free to hunt “ properties over on that side, are those good places to start? I’m not looking for your honey hole but if you have any information or guidance that would be great!! I love the chase and the dog work and need to get my girl back at it!!

Lots of land in Easter WA. pretty much just pick a town, book a hotel that allows dogs, and check the WDFW stie for local FFTH land. You will be able to walk until your sick of it.

The Yakima Firing Center has chukar. You'll need to go to the guard station and get your weapon registared and view a video and get an access card. They might have changed it since I hunted it last. Then when you hunt you have to stop at the guard station and then go see the range master and he can tell you what areas are closed. Then you sign in to hunt 1 or 2 areas. If you're caught hunting outside of the areas you signed up to hunt in I think they give you the boot. Make sure you have at least two spare tires with you as the roads are brutal on tires.

The WDFW Website and the current Upland Bird & Waterfowl Regs. list the harvest totals of each upland bird specie by county. A little cross reference with the Wildlife Areas by county on the WDFW Hunting Website gives you more than a few areas to try.

The Snake, Columbia and Yakima River breaks all hold those red legged devils. Plenty of public land to make use of as well.

You hunt them the first time for fun.  After that its for revenge.

Look into the various wildlife areas in Central Washington. 95% of my chukar hunting in Wa has been on wdfw land.

What part of the sierras did you hunt?
Right wing shooter, I aim for the left!!!

Nowhere in your incoherent rambling did you come close to what can be considered a rational thought. Everyone is now dumber having heard it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

Tons of property here on the East side near Spokane. From Fishtrap (great when they release not so much otherwise) to Revere and Escure Ranch (20,000 acres and lots of birds) there are a bunch of opportunities if you're willing to drive 3-5 hours. This year has been great for roosters, huns, and quail so far. A little snow would go a long way but it's already been a blast.

Just go over the mountains. You know what your looking for. Water, cover, south facing slopes. Use OnX maps if your unsure what is public. Just returned from hunting Nevada you might want to lower your expectations of a normal day of hunting. Get your dog out man.
