Hunted hard the last two weekends. Hunted hard again today. Seen a lot of buck tracks and there definitely following the does where I’ve been every time I see doe tracks there are buck tracks not far behind. The weather has changed for the better the rain will help. She is starting to loose interest I keep reassuring here the more time u put in the better chance you have to fill your tag. I told her blacktail hunting can be tough some times! The only problem is I’m 50 percent disabled vet from the VA! I never used it as a exscuse but I can’t walk nearly as far as I use to. But persistence pays off when chasing the grey ghost! I’ve been hunting St. Helens tree farm  I’ve hunted it for yrs. I think next year I may hunt Idaho instead as I pay resident fees now. Just So I can fulfill my chance of getting a mule deer. I got a forked horn last yr sitting on a clear cut so I think she is expecting it will be easy again. Hopefully she don’t lose interest and with a little luck things will change.

We always took the kids camping during hunting season.  That's how I was brought up into it, too.  Young kids like the camping experience more than the actually hunting -- especially if you are hunting hard.  Kids usually don't like hunting that hard.  They like to hunt, but they look forward to getting back to camp.  There they can poke sticks in the fire, make a sandwich, splash in the creek, learn how to whittle, and listen to the old timers tell stories.  Hunting with kids is a whole different thing.  At least how that's how it worked for me.   :twocents:

I’m in the same boat.. got my daughter in the mentoring program this year. Took her turkey hunting in the spring had some close calls, been wearing out some boots since the opener and haven’t poop. I am trying to work magic out of the little bit of knowledge I have for the blacktails and am shooting blanks.. it sucks and have beat myself up over it. Her I went out this morning late and I think she had a good time. Glassing cuts and teaching her the Woodsmanship, tracking, looking into scat,etc... my suggestion would be coyote hunting, cougar hunting with a caller.. need to take all of those out as we can. I think that is some of the reason for the low deer seen.. at least that’s what I tell her and her brother.. it’s very difficult to grasp the low deer numbers.. poachers, cats, bears, or wolves are taken the toll on deer and elk...
