I have a custom rifle being built that I will be receiving soon, in 7mm rem mag. Rifle will be setup for hunting. My hope is to be proficient at 5-600 and practice as far as I can. I’d like to purchase all my equipment in the next couple weeks hoping for sales.
This is on my list:
RCBS Rockchucker press
RCBS chargemaster lite
RCBS Rotary tumbler
RCBS case trimmer
All other RCBS misc supplies such as blocks, funnels, digital calipers, case lube, debur/chamfer.
Any input on this selection? I’m familiar with this equipment as a buddy of mine gave me a crash course.
I have a few questions as I get started. I’ve been watching a ton of YouTube videos and reading articles. Everyone seems to have an opinion.
COAL VS CBTO
Which one of these do I want to go by? To go off of CBTO it appears I need a comparator? But even then I’ve read that there is inconsistencies across brands and what your barrel exactly is anyway. Is overall case length adequate enough? My smith will have a piece of barrel cut off of my barrel to find the lands.
Neck vs Full length resize
I only have one 7mm that I’ll be reloading for. So the consensus seems to be to use a neck sizing die?
From what I understand, resizing must be done every time a case is fired, and trimmed to proper specs. How often are cases put through tumblers to be thouroughly cleaned? Every time they’re fired?
These are a few of the questions I’m having as I start. It seems like some articles online are so far above and beyond the standard reloading process, geared towards match shooting? It seems that I find either reloading guides that appear too in-depth and others that are too vague.
I’ve read and watched just about every video there is pertaining to some of these questions. But if you feel that there’s a great guide/video/article that will help, send it my way.
I want to start off my reloading the right way from the start. I know there are a lot of ways to do this, and I’m looking for the most fairly basic way to achieve good accuracy.
I’ll have more questions along the way!
Thanks
