Palouse late tag

Does anyone here have a copy of the email WDFW sent out to tag holders? I can't remember which days they extended the hunt to.

I was thinking the 9th as well. At least that's what I was hoping. That would give me 1 whole day to hunt it...ugh

It didn't start that way. I planned on spending the entire season there. But a Montana deer tag and a friend coming in from Alaska to hunt Montana has changed my available days. I'm actually trying to get a day or two on the way to and back from Montana.

I don't know the status of the deer numbers there currently but the last couple times I've been there with other tag holders the deer numbers were really low, supposedly from blue tongue but I don't know how true that is. Big difference in deer numbers around colfax though I know that, point is your montana hunt may be more fruitful anyhow so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

If you get done in mt early hit it up, but I wouldnt cut MT trip short to shoot some river rat :chuckle:  ran into this issue with my old man a few years back.  We got done in CO with a day to spare so looped around and hit the palouse with half a day to hunt.  Bucks were in full cruise mode and it only took about an hour to get one on the ground.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

I think I may have finagled a day or three to hunt it as of now. I'm hoping to stop on my way to and hopefully a day or two on the way home. Time will tell, anyone seeing any rut stuff happening?

I never saw an email or letter from wdfw regarding it starting early.  And I dont see it on their web page or changes page.

I'm still not seeing any deer at all where I've been looking

It’s alittle early yet, IMO. Last son #1 shot his mature buck on day one, all by himself with does near by. The second weekend I watched a buck breed a doe.

Fast forward to this year, son #2 has the tag. We saw one buck chasing does. Saw a total of 12 deer yesterday, the one and only buck was chasing a couple of different does.

Nothing again this morning.  Saw a good amount of mulies and a nice buck with about 10 does, but not a single whitetail to be seen.

Where are you hunting? Most places I hunted over there were either majority muleys or majority whitetails.

Outside Harrington, all over the place.  Hiked around several miles this morning in the nice brisk 27 degree fog.  I'm thinking of heading north tomorrow to 121 since it's any buck whitetail and I'm just looking for meat in the freezer, not a trophy.

Only out there for half a day today. My dad has the tag and he is out there for a couple more days. We saw 7 does and 2 bucks. All mulies

He needs to go further east, from about LaCross eastward to get into nearly 100% whitetails.

I think I'm going to give up on whitetail, lol.  Spent the morning in 121 where I've seen whitetail.  Only thing spotted today was a couple mulie does and a crap ton of moose.  I'm back to work the next 2 days then I'll be back at it Thursday andFriday, then I'll be done.

If on your phone, take a screen shot of the picture, and post that. Works every time.

The file size of most phone pictures is to large these days, that's the struggle.

My palouse hunt is done for the year.  Back to work tomorrow.  I will have 2 days of late muzzy to try for a deer.  One of these years I will actually get one.  U have to say, I'm enjoying the trying for now.

My boys had half day of school today so we went out for an afternoon hunt.  Did about 4 miles of hiking, saw about 15-20 mulies with a couple decent bucks.  Even saw a unicorn, a young mulie with only one spike antler.  Too far away to get a picture of him.  It was definitely a good time with my boys, so a success to me!!

Two days in and I’ve seen four does and a coyote.  Deer numbers definitely seem down.  Hunting 139.
