Red dot on a Glock?
« on: November 06, 2018, 07:49:37 PM »
Just wondering if any of you have put a red dot on your Glock?
If so which one?
Considering Burris fast fire II, Vortex Viper, Vortex Venom (looking like this best for the price)

Also if so how did you get it mounted, the easy mount way or did you get the slide cut?

I’d specifically be doing it to my Glock 20sf for what that’s worth

But anyone with experience with red dots and any glocks please share your experience   :)

How do you like the red dot? I know how particular one is way nicer than any of the ones I mentioned but anywho- was it easy/hard to mount it did you have the smith do it?

I tried to mount one with a dove tail bracket on a G20, didnt work at all. Bought a G40 MOS and put a FFIII on it, loved it. The Burris is good for the price especially if you can get one on sale. There are way better options out there and you get what you pay for

Interesting, I saw a video of a sight mount like this one (I think this exact one)

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/197274/sightmark-mini-shot-pistol-mount-matte

And it worked well and had a good review about it

I was thinking of trying that

Is that different from the one you tried? I have seen other similar sight mounts for sale with worse reviews hopefully that’s the one you tried not the one I was planning on using  :chuckle:

Not sure what brand it was, it mounted to rear site dovetail. Had it installed by a smith and it failed very quickly. I hope you have better luck than I did

Was it just a plate that mounted in the rear dovetail essentially? If so that will make me strongly reconsider... I’m bouncing between a red dot or an extended barrel..

I dont recommend the MOS series its a good idea but poor design. I have a 19MOS I wished I wouldve just bought a regular 19 and had the slide milled. With the plate my RMR sit almost to high for iron sight co witness with suppressor sights. The factory supplied screw are junk. They are way to soft if you go to torque them the heads will strip. The factory screws are also too short form my RMR. I had to buy a whole new after market scew kit for MOS. Even then the plate on the MOS does not allow the screw to get enogh threads in to securly hold the RMR down. Mine losen up every 500rds and I have to retighten them.

I’d like to know how it failed so quickly?
Did it just come unmounted?

The video I watched the guy used loctite glue in the threads and seemed pretty confident in his work  :dunno:
Like I said I’m just wondering because I don’t want to spend the money just for it to not work out, haha

Have a Glock 40 MOS with Leupold Delta point, after market barrel, trigger job, Chest holster and I'm very happy with it. It's not as nice of handling gun as Kimber 1911, but when I made decision based on total reliability leaned towards the Glock... It seems to be growing on me the more I shoot it... :)

They're awesome.
What I can tell you is two equal shooters in a head to head, one iron sites and one red dot... The red dot will embarrass.

With the DPP you need to be very aware of battery life. I hear the RMR is better on batteries.

I would 100% have the taller iron sights put on as a back up.

I would rent a pistol with a red dot before buying.

I don't think they are worth it unless you are doing competitive shooting.

If your goal is to carry defensively then definitely try first. I prefer night sights for less bulk and no batteries.

Not biased against red dots, I just prefer them on other types of guns.

I have the same setup minus the chest rig. I really like it for hunting. The red dot is nice for fast acquisition of targets. Works well with my Osprey. Curious what chest rig you have.
