Generally one Beds the action and free floats the barrel, bedding many times includes the first inch or 2 of the barrel. The idea is the action should not move in the stock when fired but nothing should impede the barrel whip or effect the harmonics. some rifles shoot better with a pressure point on the barrel, many factory rifles have a pressure point.
