barrel removal
« on: November 19, 2018, 11:26:02 AM »
Anyone know of a local Puyallup area box stores that will remove a barrel from a Rem 700.  Not trying to get in line at a gunsmith, and trying to avoid shipping barreled action in to benchmark.  Not a big deal, just easier to ship the action alone.

Haha Benchmark is in Arlington, and I live probably a good 1.5 hrs away.  I will just ship it with the barrel.  Just thought somewhere local might do it real quick.

If I was closer I’d remove it for you
https://www.howlforwildlife.org/take_action  It takes 10 seconds and it’s free. To easy to make an excuse not to make your voice heard!!!!!!

Two pipe wrenches and some leather to protect the receiver will do the trick. I don't remember where my Remington action wrench is but if I can dig it up in the next couple days I'll let you know. Last time I saw it was when I sent it off to Biggerhammer, but that was like 3, 1 year bans ago. :chuckle:

Appreciate the offer. Worst case scenario I will take an angle grinder to it, and ship it minus 16 inches.  The smith can remove the rest  :chuckle:  Im just trying to make shipping easier. Might be more trouble than its worth.  I had a line on someone local but that fell through.

If you cut the barrel to less than 16" you can get in some serious trouble if anybody that knows what it is sees it.  Benchmark just might ship it back as they wouldn't want a cutoff rifle in their shop.  Ask Randy Weaver about cutting barrels too short.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Good point.  I will cut enough off to keep it legal and find a box to ship it.
