Bone, if the opportunity presented, would you hunt Groucho? Being eliminated by you would be a lot quicker way to go than what nature has waiting.

Somewhere in my deer shed pile in the old shop out back I have about seven years of the same whitetail and he always looked the same and got super tall for a few yrs then back down to the first few years size and stayed that way but it's bases just got fatter every year. Never actually saw the deer but his sheds were always in the same spot.

That's a really cool story!

So cool to see the progression over the years like that. 2016 to 2017 I wouldn't have believed it was the same buck if it weren't for those brows. He was a real specimen in his prime  hopefully his expiration this winter isn't too brutal

I have also enjoyed following along on this deer every year. buy your history with him and saving me doing some simple math, what is your best guess on the age of this buck?

Thank you!   By looking at his condition, I'm guessing this will be his last.
I was thinking the same thing.  What a cool story.

Are there other deer with less identifiable features you have a long history with like this or is it too hard to be sure year to year with most bucks?

It helps when they are as distinguishing as this guy.  But yes there are a few.  If you search “legend” on here, it chronicals one.    I photographed one today right before dark that I’ve filmed a couple times the last 5 years.   Pretty sure anyway.

Just determined I filmed another repeat today. It was even later than the previous one.  My wife spotted it from the road.  I closed the distance and snapped a couple document pics.   A huge non typ buck the last two years.  Same character in antlers but much smaller. (He is still a nice buck)

Sorry I missed your question C.   In a way I do, every year, but no probably not.  I think this one is almost personal.  The thrill I get or got from following him from year to year was amazing.  It even inspires the Mrs, to go with me to try to find him.   Don't get me wrong, I love his antlers.  I'm still waiting for that shed hunter to step forward with them for me. LOL I hope I get another crack at that big one this year.  Lots of tags and non tags since then, so we shall see.
