Bruce, Could you high light this- Ed C.

Unofficial Record book for Washington State- If you have a large heavy beaver, Please weigh it and get a picture and send it into the Forum. If you can find a certified scale and witness that would be great, but for now a picture would be a great start. If you have that wide tail for Humptulips' contest it might a record in the making so weigh it and send a picture. Lets find out what's out there.

I've got to look and I might have a picture of a giant on the scale. 64# with a gnarled up tail from a presumed propeller injury. This was 2011-12 I believe and a true giant. Made the two year olds look like muskrats

Never got a weight on this guy but it felt way heavier than the 65lb’ers I’ve caught

Boy oh boy, the year I had my heart attack I caught a 86# in a Hancock trap on Lake Washington. Had it weighted on a certified scale too.
I never took a picture.

I talked with Judge: Doodle Stuart up on the Colville Indian Reservation a few years back before he died and he told me that he took two beavers on the Reservation that went 125# each. Doodle was a snareman and very active with WSTA back in the 80's. If you look at History (1800's) there was a lot of big beaver taken.

I trap the Snohomish River a couple of years ago for a guy on a complaint and I took several that I would say were in the high 60's low 70's.
So guys those big beavers are out there. Take a look at those big rivers they produce some big beavers.

How does a person find a certified scale? I just caught a monster and I'd like to get it weighed.

Monster first beav! I took a pair of 70 pounders one year that looked like that, tho tails were a bit larger. Was taught by an old timer that took 200+ a season and just stuffed em in freezers to skin after the season he was so busy. Don’t know what his biggest were.

Ive heard beaver meat is excellent. That true? For anybody who eats beaver, what is it similar to, if anything? Asking as a serious question, not trying to set up jokes.

Taste like lean beef. Dark red meat I grill the back straps and bone out the quarters into grinding meat and cut with bacon makes awesome burgers! Going to try smoked jerky and roast this year as well. Ribs are good on the grill as well and of course organ meat is good and healthy very small heart for such a big animal though

I have made pepperoni ( beaveroni) sticks out of beaver meat and it was very good. I prefer the Terriaki flavoring rather that Jalapeno. Make sure it is a fresh beaver and no liver spots.

How do you BBQ beaver ribs when the meat around and between the ribs is literally paper thin?

.....just finished fleshing this one out, weighed in at 63lbs....not sure if a bigger one will fit in my beaver traps!

Many yrs ago my dad would let me pick spots I thought would be good to set a trap and set one. On a particular mountain steam/pond I found a huge alder that a beaver was working on and set a trap. 2 days later I had a very large front foot in a trap that the beaver had twisted off before he drowned. I was a 10 yr old devastated young man to say the least. A week later, dad caught that legless beaver in a 330 set in the stream. Weighed in at 73 lbs. Prime beaver was going for top dollar, and I insisted on skinning the beaver myself with a reluctant dad looking on. Yep, put a big gash in its back and it was not worth nearly as much as it would have been.

1 of 3 75”-80” beavers caught this year. I should’ve weighed the 80” beaver!

The other end of the scale: Scotsman’s granddaughter packing one out. She wants to taxidermy it.... shes done a rat and raccoon and is ready for a new challenge.
