Hammer jack does it again
« on: January 27, 2019, 09:28:54 AM »
I started getting into predator hunting last year and was able to pick up this E caller the hammer jack and its really kept me interested in going out more often and at least seeing coyotes or Bobcats and occasionally get a coyote on the ground. I rode bike back into an area too retrieve trail cameras and decided to bring rifle and the call along and glad I did,  it was a short setup with success.  I need to get educated though on skinning these out,  if I would of had more time I wanted to try but I was back in there a few Miles with light fading but boy she had a beautiful coat.

Nice dog! I would’ve definitely skinned that out. YouTube is your friend for that. Predator calling is addicting, at least for me. Just made my girlfriend listen to some of the new sounds I downloaded and I don’t think she could roll her eyes any harder. What sounds did ya use? What’s the story? Gets the blood pumping every time I call one in it seems!
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Ya definitely gets me excited every time, I told my wife I was gonna have one mounted one day and she flipped a biscuit :dunno:. She's gotten used to the deer mounts and horns but trying to convince her with a coyote or bobcat will be a little more work. Well the story was I got my cameras a buddy and put out last summer and decided to ride further up road a bit and I turned off up a spur road and ended up pushing the bike the majority of the hill.  I got to the top and they're was small spur that turned off.  It looked good with thick jack firs on both side abd was thinking maybe be good area for a bobcat. I put the call down the middle of spur road and I sat back about 40 yrds from call looking straight down road.  I played adult cotton tail for 6 min and usually right at between 6 and 7 min if there's something near by it'll appear. I switched to cagey cottontail and sure enough after like 45 sec she popped into road on the far side of call just looking at it . I aimed and squeezed trigger and nothing the gun just clicked...Crap! I slowly jacked the shell out another in and she was going back and forth into trees debating on actually coming closer to the call.  she came across again and I let her have it she dropped and spun a couple times and that was it.  I really wanted to skin her but like I said I didn't have what I needed to hang her up and be able to pull the hide off plus I was a few miles from truck and had to get back.  I'l definitely start packing what I need for next time and watching some utube about it.  Hoping to get out alot more this year.

a piece of line with loops on both ends to hang it from the rear feet, knife and a tail stripper and you can do it pretty fast.Don't need it but once you figure it out they save a ton of time.
Watch you tube videos on how to use a tail stripper. Once you get the hang of it, it will go super fast.
Good job and nice looking dog.

Thanks for the write up! Now is a interesting time of year, seems my calling is always harder in January until mating season starts. Bobcat prices are crazy high so don’t leave any of those behind!

The skulls are pretty cool, I’d try convincing the significant other that you need one on the mantle!

:chuckle: if I got lucky enough to get a bobcat they're wouldn't be any question of either it mounted or rug style , wife would have too get used to it.
