I'm looking forward to it as well.  Heading out Thursday morning right after my post-op appointment.  Hopefully, the doc will give me the OK to go hunt after my recent shoulder surgery.  Found some good sign so I'm tempted to go regardless of what he says.

Is it to late to try and rattle in a blacktail during the late buck? I’m headed out opening morning and was thinking about giving it a try.. I was planning on trying on the edges of a few clearcuts I’ve been seeing tracks on.

It sure won't hurt to try rattling. Find a good hiding place and give the woods 20 - 30 minutes to settle down before starting.  Don't expect them to come running in.  Many times they sneak in from the downwind side and peer through the brush trying to figure out who's there.  Some say it might take 30 minutes or more for them to work their way into range.  PolarBear (in the past) recommended the uphill side of a cut (with the road on the bottom or side), something like 20  -50 yards into the timber......   Move periodically if no action.  Mornings with downhill thermals are a good time if you've positioned yourself so you can see out into the cut a bit.  The deer in the timber are less likely to wind you as they come in.

Nope, not too late depending on area. As long as they are after the does it can work. My best buck I rattled in on the opening morning of the late buck hunt. Well, the doe came in head up ears perked to check it out, she was very adamant to find the fight, the buck was right on her tail. Even does and spikes will come in to watch a fight, so if a buck is on one of those does...

I think you guys hunting the late season are going to do well and have fun. In the GMU I was hunting with my rut tag (651) the rut just seemed to start happening about the 10th. So I'm guessing it'll still be going pretty strong. Post pics!

I'm on the same schedule as you Old Man and I may see you out there as I know at times you are in Kapowsin.  I'll be out trying to get my middle son his, was able to get my youngest his during general.  I play more guide than I hunt nowadays but I sure love watching my boys be successful.
