Wyoming Deeer/Antelope Combo 2019
« on: November 16, 2018, 03:57:56 PM »
As i do not have any tags left for out of state hunting and the GF is hounding me to take her out of state next year im here already researching next year on how to do a combo hunt in Wyoming. Im just wondering how everyone does their research for this. I have GoHunt and a few HuntnFool magazines and am just sitting here racking my brain on how to find a unit for both. I have 1 deer preference point and 2 antelope points and the GF only has 1 antelope hunt. I have found decent units for one or the other but none for both. Not looking for your areas just wondering if im missing anything in my research on how to find an area for both with little to no points. Any information is greatly appreciated

Without more points, I would focus on finding a good deer area with antelope in it, rather then trying to find an area with great hunting for both.

When researching for areas the wyo game and fish site has good info on drawing odds and harvest rates, combined with onx to determine access potential.

Been looking at and it seems best thing to do would be deer hunt 1 unit then drive halfway across the state to do antelope. seems to be easiest to do both

With few points, you aren’t going to have a good solution.  Figure out what is most important and plan around that.  You won’t be in a premium unit for either.

Wyoming has gotten way to popular in the last 10 years to do this with a few points. I think even in the special draw you will be out of reach. For example an area I antelope hunt when I first started going over I could draw it as a second choice. Now it takes 5 points In The special draw. There is deer areas that you could have a good hunt if you scout. Also you mentioned taking your GF, you will not find a better hunt for her In Wyoming than you would have in Montana on public land :twocents: I have hunted both states successfully with my wife. But I would pick Montana every time for her and I to go due to deer numbers and they are rutting. Now if I was just hunting by myself or with buddies with that point range you have options in Wyoming that would be enticing. You two could certainly find success in Wyoming I’m just meaning she will have more opportunity in MT and the deer will be more cooperative.

Thanks for the input. I actually just got back from MT a few days ago. I definitely agree about the numbers from what I’ve seen there. Just trying to do 2 out of state trips for her. Looking for  1 in Wyoming a few weeks before Montana. Definitely looks like if we do WY I’ll just have to see if I can find a 2nd choice for deer or antelope and go that route while still building points

Dwrecknfish,

Are either you or your GF a bow hunter? There are several states with OTC archery antelope tags. Colorado and South Dakota, for example. It would be extremely possible to purchase both deer and antelope tags and do your out of state hunting at the end of August/first part of September.

I archery hunt but she does not. Speed goats would be quite fun with stick and string

And an arrow with it wouldn't be bad either
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.
