Next day goose?

Yesterday morning was an amzing goose hunt in moses lake. 5 man limit in 45 minutes. Drove back to JBLM and started to pluck 1 of the 4 and received the frantic phone call from my wife about and emergency with our horses. I stuffed the birds in a bag amd put em in the fridge. We didnt get home until midnight and I forgot about the geese in the fridge. I just finished processing them and they looked and smelled ok. My question is, do you proffesionals think the meat is still good? Im new to the goose thing

yes they will be fine. Some people hang them for days or even weeks. One day is good to roll

Thank you. I was going to eat them either way, I just didnt want to cook poison golf course birds for my son.

They will actually probably be better, hanging tends to improve flavor.  The only thing to look out for is if some were hit in the guts and they leaked out.  When you are cleaning them, your nose will tell you if something is wrong.  One day is not big deal.

Nice hunt by the way. Which golf course has goose blinds? I might have to pack a shotgun next time I go golfing.

Oh a 2 year old mare that waited until she was in the trailer and tied to lose her damn mind. Just some cuts and gashes.
It was a privatlely owned golf course like deal. We hunted in an alfalfa field looking at the 10 hole. They halfway fly over to eat right in the decoys. It was a true honkers at your feet hunt

I've heard of people hanging waterfowl by the head until their body falls off and thats when they butcher them.

Never tried it though!

I hang my big game and cattle for a while but I think I will stick to processing and brining my birds the first or second day haha. Im not saying hanging until its body falls off isnt a good way, Im just not man ebough to try it.

I'm a hanger, for sure. Minimum five days, max I've done is twenty. I've only had problems with spoilage if there are daytime temps in the 60's. The heads always get stinky but the meat is SUPERB. Try it. You won't go back.

I have put ducks and geese that I have shot in my refer in garage for a day or two on their backs only. They have always been good.
