Picked up my shorthair pup
« on: November 22, 2018, 06:59:36 AM »
Been waiting for a year to get this pup. 1st pick female. She's feisty, full of energy and howled all night the first two nights we had her. Getting better now. Older dog is less than impressed, but tolerating her as long as she stays away from his food bowl

Congrats!!! Post more! I'm interested in this breed. Will get one one day.
So far only have 3 cats ) My wife is trolling me that they are better hunters cause they harvest mouses at least once a week )

That pic of your pup chewing on the older dog says it all.  Reminds me of my lab pup harassing my sons Border Collie that stays with us part of every week.

Congrats.

Congrats on a great looking pup!

We had a GSP for 9 years and had to put him down about 7 years ago.  This post brought back lots of great memories of that feisty little tuff guy we had.  Great dogs, great hunters, great with kids, and as friends.

A little update, pup is coming along, very stubborn and so full of energy it can be tough to get her to focus. Introducing her to guns went a little too well, she tries to chew on shotgun shells and bolt to the neighbor's if they're out shooting. She's absolutely bird crazy. Retrieves bumpers to hand in the house but will only drop it at my feet in the yard. Been working on pigeons in the yard for a few weeks. She hasn't nailed pointing yet. She'll freeze up once she locates the bird, then quickly gets overwhelmed, looking back and forth from me to the bird. Sometimes she gets so excited she starts barking at the pigeon. This is my first pointing dog, so training is moving along a little slower than it probably should. It's not an experience I would want to give up though.

Glad to see she's coming along well!

I just picked up a GSP pup last Thursday, it's crazy how much he's already learned since then. Definitely a handful, but I see a lot of fun ahead of us.

I'm all ears if you have any pro-tips, recommendations, or training resources that I should be aware of. Thanks in advance!
