I've seen a handful in Washington over the years.  One deep in the central cascades years ago, a bunch on San Juan, and last year I had one cross the road in front of me up behind Loon Lake.  It stopped about 10 yards off the road and stared at me just long enough not to get a picture.

I hit one outside Salmon, ID with the truck this year. Didn't have time to stop and pick him up unfortunately. Felt terrible.

I had a hunter show me one he killed just north of Crescent Bar in Grant County.  My wife has seen two near Wenatchee, one crossing Kingsbury rd and one on Horse Lake Mountain.  I heard them barking near my house in eastern Lewis County in 2001, but never saw one.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I've only seen two fox in my entire life, one red, one gray, both in Spokane County.  The red one I saw was out toward Medical Lake and it was about 16 years ago.  The gray fox I saw was only about a month ago.

Hmm I wonder if the grays can get established here?  Or are our winters too long and too much snow?

They are the coolest little animal.  Never got tired of watching them climb trees in TX
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

The gray fox I saw a month or so ago was pretty close to the road, maybe 50yds, and I nearly drove off the road looking at it.  :yike:

South east WA. I’ve seen this female multiple times and I saw her pups last spring. These ones like to hang out right by the river

I saw a black one this year in the ski area at Crystal (early October).  I've seen quite a few here in Olympia.  A handful out towards Dickenson Point and one out towards Nisqually.  I also saw one in Pullman.

Used to be several groups across the Hood Canal bridge in Paradise bay area. I hit one on the highway just on the corner at the top of the hill where west bound goes to one lane.

A friend of mine killed one in his chicken coop in January just north of Moses Lake.  They have seen others out there occasionally.  Also saw one dead on I 90 near Moses Lake this spring so there are a few around.  I had a chance at one once outside of Broadus Montana... wish now I would have shot the bugger but my mind was on horns not tails.

They seem to favor hilly terrain, with brush or trees.  I assume, so they can escape coyotes.  They don't do well in wide open country that has coyotes, unless it is near urban areas.
