Spring update
« on: March 22, 2009, 09:04:47 AM »
Went over to the property in the NE on Saturday (Fruitland area). Snow is melting, still about a foot on the road and north face hill sides ( 1 1/2 to 2 feet last weekend). South facing hill sides are bare and under the trees are bare (2800 ft). Last weekend bird were down by the farms (2000 ft). This weekend the birds were on the property at (2800 ft).

So it looks like we are going to be hunting in a little snow for youth, but for general I think most of the snow will be gone down low(3000 ft) if the weather stays as it is wright now. Mid 40's to low 50's.

By the way I got another 2000 acers yesterday for youth and general. :IBCOOL:

Here's a pic from the property

did you BUY 2,000 acres, or get the OK to hunt it?

Slayer,

Great news on the conditions in your area and nice going on getting permission to hunt additional private land!! :)

Looks like you will be in great shape for a productive youth season next weekend. :hunt2: :hunt2: :hunt2:

Also nice picture of the boss tom!  Looks like the birds are in full gear.  And the rest of us can't sleep at night, waiting to get out there again.

Phantom, They really didn't seem to be in full gear. That big tom was the only bird that I seen strutting on Saturday, the rest of the toms that we seen were out of strut and away from the hens. My dad and I herd 2 or 3 gobbles and that was it. I think by youth they will be in the mood, but we will see.

Good news Turkey Slayer !

I will give a few more conditions here if you dont mind....
Chewelah is about the same for snow as you stated, as is Colville.
I traveled a bit north of Colvile, hell almost to the border of Northport.  There is lots of snow around that area !  Some places being more than 2' but the south slopes are less.
I didnt see as many turkeys this trip as I have in past years though.
I found 3 different groups of long beards, and only 1 group would gobble.

Sounds like conditions are shaping up to be about the same as last year.................which was certainly a challenge for all of us!!

Keep the reports coming in as we get closer to the opener.

It will be helpful to hear how the youth season goes for all of you hunting NE.  Still a ways to go before then, however the weather is staying.............cold!   :bash:

I have a spot that the snow is almost always over the road and it makes the area absolutely awesome.  The birds never see any pressure till late in the season.  I love having to walk into an area because other folks never unass their vehicles and walk that far.
